Blessing wants to move to a building at 2995 Paul Drive, formerly occupied by Damon. Blessing plans to spend $300-thousand making improvements to the building and $1.5 million on new equipment. Right now, Blessing makes trumpets, trombones and other instruments at its Elkhart plant, and many of those products are shipped overseas. “Last night, we just loaded up a large order of instruments that left for Indonesia, just today we loaded up another large order of instruments that left for Germany,” said Blessing Company General Manager Steve Rorie.

Blessing is done “shipping overseas” its production—and the jobs associated with it. Outsourcing abruptly came to an end when a new owner came into the picture. Last fall, Blessing was purchased by Powell Flutes, Inc., head quartered in Massachusetts.
“As of the acquisition close in October, our President Steve Wasser made the decision that Blessing would no longer import musical instruments—that we will now only sell what we make,” Rorie said. The ‘All American’ directive has Blessing looking to make a move into a larger building. The Paul Drive facility is two and a half times bigger than Blessing’s current facility. That’s big enough to handle the new production that would be moved to Elkhart.

Olds Trumpet Logo

The F.E. Olds name may not be familiar to you. The company that makes the horns we sell went out-of-business 30 years ago. (A Westfield, NJ company now has the rights to the F.E. Olds name. ) Here’s a brief history.

Frank Ellsworth (F.E.) Olds started making trumpets in Los Angeles, California in the early 1900’s. The Super Olds line was introduced in the 1930’s.

By 1941, Olds held at least 6 patents for trumpet and trombone design. Olds was first to use professional-type valve springing on student trumpets and cornets.

World War II interrupted the production of trumpets. Shortly after the WWII, the company was acquired by Chicago Musical Instruments with a eye towards the school band market. Shortly thereafter, Olds introduced the famous Olds Ambassador line of trumpets and trombones.

The Recording and Super models became popular with professionals.

Jonas Jones played an Olds Trumpet.

F.E. Olds Fullerton Plant

In 1950, the Fullerton plant was opened. As production was increased, quality suffered, and today some collectors prefer an ‘LA Olds’ versus a ‘Fullerton Olds’. (The distinction may be ‘bragging rights’; we’ve seen many fine Fullerton horns.)

In 1960, F.E. Olds died unexpectedly while on a cruise and was buried at sea.  In 1964, Olds merged with the F.A. Reynolds Company. In 1978, the Olds company folded and its equipment was auctioned.

A New Jersey company now has the rights to the F.E. Olds name. It is based in Westfield, NJ.

This trumpet has been sold. This is a reconditioned used  silver Bach TR300 Bb trumpet serial number B35952 and it looks good and plays like it should.  The Bach TR300 is the top Bach student line trumpet and is the first trumpet on most high school Band director’s list of preferred student trumpets.  This reconditioned used trumpet has been ultrasonic cleaned, valves have been hand polished and realigned and it has been play tested and found to play very open with good tone and  intonation.
TR300 Demo:

With a professional Bach #6 Stradivarius leadpipe this trumpet plays more open and with less resistance than most other student model trumpets.   Its features include a first valve thumb hook, adjustable third valve slide finger ring and stop mechanism, two conventional lever waterkeys, valves with one-point nylon valve guides, a two-piece 4.75″ bell with rim wire, a medium large .459 bore. Our price also includes a used carrying case and a used 7C mouthpiece.

This Bach Omega Trumpet is a great stepup trumpet for the advanced student trumpet player. Many of my Customer Trumpet Players are performing well with Bach Omegas in High School and College Music Programs.

This reconditioned used Bach Omega Trumpet, serial number 521908, although used it is in very good condition, its silver finish is very good with a few small scratches, and it plays like a Bach Stradivarius.

Bach Omega Demo:

This trumpet has been ultrasonic cleaned, both dings have been removed (it only had 2 small ones), valves have been aligned and new springs, pads, and felts have been installed, first and third slides have been alighned and kickout easily.  It has been play tested and is easy to play with a nice tone and correct intonation. These are intermediate trumpets just a small step below the Bach Stradivarius with a beautifully engraved bell and sold new for around $1600.

Bach quit making these horns about 5 years ago, if you missed an opportunity to buy a Bach Omega when Bach was selling them, here’s your chance to own a good one at a fraction of its new price ($1600) and a great savings over a Bach Stradivarius. The Bach Omega trumpets are the best trumpet we handle. Beautifully engraved bell and silver finish is in very good condition.

Bore size is ML (.459) Same as a model 37 Bach Stradivarius. 4-3/4″ Bell based on Bach Stradivarius #37 design. #25 bach Stradivarius lead pipe. Monel metal pistons with two-point nylon valve guides and enclosed barrel shaped bronze valve springs. It has crisp fast valve action. One-peice Stradivarius-style valve casing. This is a great step-up trumpet for the advanced student at a lot less money than a Bach Stradivarius.

So by taking a more economical approach, we can offer Student Trumpets that look good (but not like new) and play correctly at prices less than the cost of a “like new” restoration that is not practical for student trumpets.

TR300 Demo:

The Bach TR300 trumpet is the number one trumpet on most high school band director’s list of preferred student level trumpets. This is a completely reconditioned trumpet that looks good and plays correctly with great tone and intonation.

Minor flaws in the lacquer finish may be visible under close inspection. Although we try to make them look like new some minor blemishes show up only after the horn is lacquered. At this price we can not afford to redo them.

The Bach TR300 is the best student level trumpet available and these trumpets are USA made and were made a couple of years ago before the Bach factory strike and before Bach went overseas for their trumpet manufacturing. These trumpets were made by Bach craftsmen who took pride in creating top-quality trumpets.

This is a completely reconditioned trumpet that plays like a new one with great tone and intonation. All dents and dings have been removed, tuning slides, water keys and valves work freely.  Valves are original and have good compression and crisp fast action.

This is an excellent trumpet for a committed beginner and will help any student progress from beginner through intermediate to advanced.

Many people including me often tell parents of advanced students “don’t buy an Intermediate trumpet buy a top level student horn or a professional horn because the intermediate trumpet is just a student trumpet with a few added bells or whistles.” This is bad information when it comes to the Bach Omega Trumpets.

These trumpets in my opinion are much closer to the Bach Stradivarius then they are to the best student level trumpets. The Bach TR300, Yamaha 2335, and Blessing B127 and B135 do not come close to the tone and intonation achieved with a Bach Omega.   In addition, the Bach Omega is easier to play in the upper register so that your ability to hit notes above the staff will not be limited by this trumpet.

I was so impressed with a Bach Omega that I repaired for a local student that our budget has been stretched so that we can carry some good used reconditioned silver Bach Omega trumpets. Primarily the valves are what is reconditioned, pistons are hand lapped and hand polished, valve casings are cleaned and hand polished, valve springs, felts and bumpers are replaced with genuine Conn-Selmer Bach Stradivarius Parts since the pistons and valve casings are the same as those on the Bach Stradivarius.

Personally, I like the Bach Omega better than the TR200 so we will not carry the TR200 which is supposed to be the same horn, but I don’t think so.

Chemical cleaning is important because contaminants building-up inside an instrument year-after-year will result in a chemical leaching of zinc from the copper/zinc alloy. This de-zincification (better known as red rot) will ultimately result in tubing splits and pinholes, especially in a trumpet mouthpipe. Our cleaning process begins with disassembly of the trumpet removing the valve pistons, and slides and the removal of built-up oil and grease. An ultrasonic chemical bath then removes the corrosion, mineral scale and other foreign matter from the inside of the horn. No metal is removed in this process. During the chemical cleaning, we take steps to avoid damaging lacquered finishes. After the cleaning, the valve pistons and valve casings are hand polished and reassembled and correctly aligned and crisp fast valve action is restored replacing springs, felts and pads as necessary. Slide tubing is hand polished and greased, Waterkey levers and springs are oiled and new corks are installed. After the trumpet has been correctly reassembled, the instrument is thoroughly checked and play tested by our NAPBIRT trained technician and owner of trumpet4U.

This $75 trumpet cleaning and tune up service includes:

• Trumpet is disassembled and ultrasonic cleaned in a chemical solution formulated to clean the inside of a trumpet, followed by a thorough brushing.
• Valve pistons and valve casings are hand polished, valves are correctly aligned. Crisp fast valve action is restored. Springs, felts and pads are replaced as necessary.
• Easily accessible dents are removed.
• Trumpet is lubricated and correctly reassembled – tuning and valve slides fit and aligned as necessary.
• Waterkey operation is checked and springs and corks are replaced when necessary.
• Trumpet is play tested and inspected by our experienced trumpet player and NAPBIRT trained repair technician.

The above Play Condition Service does not include:

• Removal of extreme and/or very large dents
• Crinkled bells
• Resoldering braces, pinky hook, or tuning slides
• Totally frozen tuning slides that require oil-soaking and heating or unsoldering

Crone Trumpet has invested in a Dent Machine and all the special rollers so that we can do a professional job on straightening a crinkled or damage trumpet bell.

Unless the bell is severely crinkled it can usually be straightened to its original shape without leaving any marks on the lacquer or silver finish.

Our NAPBIRT trained repairman has attended NAPBIRT classes and seminars that included Dent Machine use and special trumpet repair techniques.

In addition, he has attended a Dent Machine Seminar at the Farree’s Tool plant in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Since the Dent Machine uses polished rollers with adjustable pressure, it eliminates the need ro use dent hammers and burnishers so the finish is usually unmarked by the process. However, the lacquer or silver finished is often marked by the dent itself but the lubricated rollers will not add to this damage like a dent hammer or burnisher might.

Buy this trumpet before January 2, 2009 and save $50.  Price goes up next year.  This brand new B126 Blessing Bb trumpet serial number H29830  that has a suggested retail price of $875.00. This is a quality Blessing USA made trumpet with a nice tone and excellent intonation at a great price. Look out Bach, I have been playing trumpet since 1942 and in my opinion this trumpet plays easier and more open than both the Bach TR500 and Bach TR600 trumpets. It is on the same level as the Bach TR300.  Also Blessing trumpets are made in Elkhart, IN, the Bach TR500 is made in Taiwan, and the Bach TR600 is made in China.  I ordered parts for a TR500 in August and I am still waiting for them.
Blessing B126 Demo:

This is a beautiful brass trumpet just right for the beginning to intermediate trumpet player. This horn features a clear epoxy lacquered finish, two traditional lever style waterkeys, a first valve slide thumb hook, an adjustable third valve slide finger ring, a 5 inch bell, attractive silve brass trim, and monel valve pistons. It has a medium large 0.460″ bore.  Blessing B126 model trumpets, produced after 2002, incorporate the many manufacturing improvements made by Blessing. They are now often designated Blessing B126M trumpets to highlight that these horns possess improvements over earlier models, including: sturdier braces; a rose brass mouthpipe; an improved redesigned receiver; an upgraded third slide finger ring holder and screws; and slide pull knobs with a new streamlined look (i.e., a single centralized pull knob on each slide instead of double knobs). In addition after 2003 Blessing has used new CNC lathes to turn out valves to the most exacting specifications.

Bach TR300 Demo:

The Bach TR300 trumpet is the number one trumpet on most high school band director’s list of preferred student level trumpets. This is a completely reconditioned trumpet that looks good and plays correctly with great tone and intonation. Minor flaws in the lacquer finish may be visible under close inspection. Although we try to make them look like new some minor blemishes show up only after the horn is lacquered. At this price we can not afford to redo them. Our economical overhaul costs about $200 to do and a “like new” overhaul costs $450 or more. The Bach TR300 is the best student level trumpet available and these trumpets are USA made and were made a couple of years ago before the Bach factory strike and before Bach went overseas for their trumpet manufacturing. These trumpets were made by Bach craftsmen who took pride in creating top-quality trumpets. This is a completely reconditioned trumpet that plays like a new one with great tone and intonation. All major dents and dings have been removed:however,some small dings and marks where dents were removed may remain tuning slides, water keys and valves work freely.  Valves are original and have good compression and crisp fast action. This is an excellent trumpet for a committed beginner and will help any student progress from beginner through intermediate to advanced.

• Overall Condition: Completely overhauled and reconditioned. Some minor blemishes may remain where dents were removed but are only visible under close inspection. These do not interfere with its tone or intonation.
• Finish: Relacquered with clear baked-on epoxy lacquer. Minor flaws in the lacquer finish may be visible under close inspection.
• Dents/Dings: Minor marks where dents were removed may remain, but will not affect tone or intonation.

It is a quality trumpet made in Elkhart, In. by the EK Blessing Company. The silver finish is in very good shape with only some small scratches that can be seen only by close inspection. Some of the braces have also been resoldered but it was well done and is only noticeable on close inspection. It has smooth, crisp valve action and plays correctly. It is the top model of Blessings student line trumpets and it is easy to play in tune with a nice tome.

Just Reduced $100. This is a vintage 30-year old Blessing Alpha Bk Model Bb Trumpet that is in good condition. It must have spent a lot of time in the closet because the nickel plated finish is still in good shape with just a couple of worn spots and the valves look like new. I think that it was sold as an intermediate trumpet but it plays like today’s Blessing’s ML-1 professional model.




It comes with a good used Blessing case and a use Blessing 7C mouthpiece. The Blessing Alpha BK Model Trumpet Features:

The Bach Omega trumpets are the best trumpet we handle. Beautifully engraved bell and silver finish is in very good condition.

Bore size is ML (.459) Same as a model 37 Bach Stradivarius. 4-3/4″ Bell based on Bach Stradivarius #37 design. #25 bach Stradivarius lead pipe. Monel metal pistons with two-point nylon valve guides and enclosed barrel shaped bronze valve springs. It has crisp fast valve action. One-peice Stradivarius-style valve casing. This is a great step-up trumpet for the advanced student at a lot less money than a Bach Stradivarius.

We bought this Bach Omega from a music store where a technician had replaced the bell assembly and there was a lot of solder splatter on the finish. We redid the sold work and remove most of the solder splatter but there was some damage to the silver finis on the underside of the bell assembly. This reconditioned used Bach Omega Trumpet, serial number 546708, although used it is in very good condition other than the finished as described, and it plays like a Bach Stradivarius.

 This reconditioned and relacquered Blessing B126 Bb trumpet serial number H29830  that has a suggested retail price of $875.00. This is a quality Blessing USA made trumpet with a nice tone and excellent intonation at a great price. Look out Bach, I have been playing trumpet since 1942 and in my opinion this trumpet plays easier and more open than both the Bach TR500 and Bach TR600 trumpets. It is on the same level as the Bach TR300.  Also Blessing trumpets are made in Elkhart, IN, the Bach TR500 is made in Taiwan, and the Bach TR600 is made in China.  I ordered parts for a TR500 in August and I am still waiting for them.
Blessing B126 Demo:

This is a beautiful brass trumpet just right for the beginning to intermediate trumpet player. This horn features a clear epoxy lacquered finish, two traditional lever style waterkeys, a first valve slide thumb hook, an adjustable third valve slide finger ring, a 5 inch bell, attractive silve brass trim, and monel valve pistons. It has a medium large 0.460″ bore.  Blessing B126 model trumpets, produced after 2002, incorporate the many manufacturing improvements made by Blessing. They are now often designated Blessing B126M trumpets to highlight that these horns possess improvements over earlier models, including: sturdier braces; a rose brass mouthpipe; an improved redesigned receiver; an upgraded third slide finger ring holder and screws; and slide pull knobs with a new streamlined look (i.e., a single centralized pull knob on each slide instead of double knobs). In addition after 2003 Blessing has used new CNC lathes to turn out valves to the most exacting specifications.

This Silver Bach Omega Trumpet S/N 512808 looks good and plays like it should. 
Bach Omega Demo:

Although this is considered an Intermediate Trumpet, it plays much more like a Bach Stradivarius than it does any of the best intermediate or student line trumpets. “The Omega was a great horn and, I think, that is why it was discontinued. It competed against their own Strad” On 2-10-2008, I repaired a Bach Stradivarius and play tested it along with this Bach Omega.  I could tell no difference between the two in how they played or in their sound. Not many Bach Strads around for $700. The Monel valve pistons, valve section, and all the slides are actually Stradivarius parts and are available from the Conn-Selmer parts department. The only difference is a heavier two-piece bell assembly which holds up well for high school band practice sessions. Most students practice more and sound much better with this stradivarius-type tone and intonation. It has been: ultrasonic cleaned,  the valves have been gone over and accurately aligned (valve ports to casing ports) with new valve springs, bumpers and pads selected for correct valve operation.  Beautifully engraved bell and silver finish is in  good used condition. 



Bore size is ML (.459) Same as a model 37 Bach Stradivarius. 4-3/4″ Bell based on Bach Stradivarius #37 design.  #25 bach Stradivarius lead pipe.  Monel metal pistons with two-point nylon valve guides and enclosed barrel shaped bronze valve springs. It has crisp fast valve action. 



One-piece Stradivarius-style valve casing.  This is a great step-up trumpet for the advanced student at a lot less money than a Bach Stradivarius.

The bargain horns listed on the ‘bargain-trumpets-for-sale’ page are used trumpets and/or cornets that have not been relacquered and may contain some lacquer wear and dings, scratches, or finish blemishes that have not been fixed.  However, they have all been chemically cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, major dents have been removed, tuning slides have been freed and valve alignment has been checked and new felts installed. 

All bargain horns are guaranteed to play and function correctly. A used case is provided that may be less than perfect and a used 7C mouthpiece is provided that may be scratched and dented except in the rim and shank area so it will function correctly.  Cases, mouthpieces, and the appearance of the horn are not guranteed, but it is  guaranteed to function and play correctly.
