NFL suspends concussion study due to conflict of interest concerns
Linda T. Sanchez, Democrat of California, said, “Hey, why don’t we let tobacco companies determine whether smoking is bad for your health or not?” representing the sentiment that the NFL was not the proper body to investigate this issue. Congressional ridicule of the study has resulted in resignations of those conducting the study. On Friday, the NFL said it was suspending its study in favor of studying via academic medical institution. There is mounting evidence that NFL players face an increased risk of dementia, a delayed effect of suffering concussions while playing. The New York Times story is here.
